Attic Window
About this block
This block's name comes from its 3D illusion: a center square framed on two sides by light and dark strips, so it appears to project or recede like a window set into a sloped attic wall. Several unrelated designs share the name, since the visual idea spread faster than any single fixed construction, and quilters in different regions built their own version while keeping the title. The traditional method joins window and frame with a mitred seam (which is the construction used for this version on CleverQuilts), though many quilters now substitute half-square triangles at the corners for an easier build.
