Y-Seam
Y-Seam Unit
Join three seams at a single pivot point to build angled units without distortion.
- Mark the seam intersection point on each piece where the three seams will meet.
- Sew the first seam and stop exactly at the marked pivot point; backstitch once to lock it.
- Open the layers, rotate the next piece into position, and align raw edges from the pivot outward.
- Start stitching at the pivot point and sew the second seam, keeping the remaining fabric out of the way.
- Repeat for the third seam, then press carefully so the Y-junction lays flat without tucks.
Pro tip: Use a shorter stitch length near the pivot and always stop with the needle down at the marked point to keep the junction crisp.
