About this block

This block is built from four "paw" units, each made of half-square triangles and a small square arranged to suggest a claw, joined around a center square with connecting strips between the paws. The half-square triangles do the real work here, forming the toes that give the block its footprint look when finished. It's also known under several other names depending on the region and era, including Bear's Paw, Rosebud, and Duck's Foot.
