This 19th-century pattern is named for its central motif, a cross topped by a crown. It's built from squares and half-square triangles arranged into a five-patch grid, with the block's shape creating its own sashing effect when several are set together in a straight layout, meaning no separate sashing strips are needed between blocks. It goes by an unusually large number of other names depending on the source, including Goose Tracks, Crossroads, Duck Paddle, Lilies, Flying Darts, and Fanny's Fan.
