About this block

This design takes a basic four-patch and frames it with a bordered strip, using contrasting cornerstones at each corner join. The cornerstones read as a secondary grid against the border, and the same center-block-plus-cornerstone-frame treatment shows up constantly throughout traditional quiltmaking, most recognizably in Chimneys and Cornerstones set with Log Cabin blocks.
