Techniques used (complete these first)

Log Cabin (Center-Out Spiral)

Log Cabin (Center-Out Spiral) Unit

An assembly method where units are added in a rotating 'round-robin' sequence around a central square. Each piece (the 'log') spans the length of the existing unit.

  1. Start with a central 'foundation' square.
  2. Align your first log with one side of the center square and sew.
  3. Rotate the unit 90 degrees.
  4. Align the next log along the new, longer edge created by the previous two pieces and sew.
  5. Continue rotating and adding logs in a consistent direction (clockwise or counter-clockwise) until the desired block size is reached.

Pro tip: Consistency is key. If you start rotating clockwise, do not switch directions mid-block, or the 'weave' will break and the math for your strip lengths won't align.

Subunits first

Using the techniques listed above, make the following sub units: 1 Plain Square Unit, 1 Plain Square Unit, 1 Plain Square Unit, 2 Plain Square Units, 1 Plain Square Unit, 1 Plain Square Unit, 1 Plain Square Unit, 1 Plain Square Unit, 1 Plain Square Unit, 2 Plain Square Units.
