About this block
This block is built from just five pieces: a center diagonal strip flanked by two split half-square triangles. It shares the same kind of diagonal-through-the-block movement seen in Kentucky Chain, but with a far simpler piece count, making it a much quicker build. The narrow diagonal band running through the center gave blocks like this their practical purpose historically, since that clean strip of fabric offered a natural place for a signature or inscription, a common feature of album and friendship quilts.
