Pieced borders

The main feature this week is pieced borders. I had been putting this off in favor of foundational work because it felt unnecessary at first, but seeing it in action makes me so happy. It really takes a quilt from looking basic to giving it a real pop, even on a beginner-friendly design.

To make this happen, I unified border functionality across all layouts, so radial quilts now have the exact same capabilities as the rest. You get both basic and advanced options, including full control over piece length and width. That means you can use rectangular border pieces or set them to align directly with your blocks, with or without sashing. Just like regular quilt sections, these pieces are individually paintable and are accurately calculated into both cutting instructions and total yardage. You can add as many borders as you want, all the way up to an oversized king layout.

For now, these borders use plain fabric shapes rather than pieced blocks, but adding full quilt blocks into the border grid is coming next.

I hope you enjoy playing with the new pieced border options on the site.
